The
pilot school project for the Centre was to organise a Cultural Enrichment
Programme with the Singapore Chinese Girls' School for their Secondary One
and Two students in 1998.
The content of the Programme was delivered with special emphasis on the Singapore
context. Such consciousness has been built in to draw awareness of rich ethnic
cultural heritage, which is an integral part of Singapore culture within this
multi-racial environment. By assisting students to discover their identity
through customs, moral values, traditions and other basic forms of living,
they would gain better insights toward leading a more fulfilled and meaningful
life in their adulthood.
This programme was presented by experts of Chinese culture. Parents were encouraged
to join in the sessions to learn along with their child/children. It also
created opportunities for parents to share their personal experiences and
knowledge. Such participation would forge closer family ties and bonding.
